Board Opportunity – Youthprise

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

In early 2010, the Foundation’s Board of Directors began to explore the feasibility of transferring its youth out-of-school time portfolio to an independent entity (intermediary) to ensure that the Foundation’s impact in the field could continue to grow.

After testing the idea with knowledge leaders and other successful out-of-school time intermediaries around the country, a local advisory council representing key stakeholders in the out-of-school time field was formed to shape the concept. In November 2010 a Board of Directors was formed for the new intermediary, and in March 2011 the organization received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and trademarked the name Youthprise.

Volunteer Opportunity – YMCA of Minneapolis

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and girls, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. This mission is our promise to the future of Minneapolis.

The YWCA of Minneapolis was founded in 1891 to work towards the health and empowerment of women and girls. In the 1940’s, almost 10 years before the start of the Civil Rights movement, the YWCA integrated its Board of Directors and facilities and began work on racial justice issues of that time. Since the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, our focus has been on the needs of the inner city: serving youth in Minneapolis Public Schools, supporting low-income families with high-quality early childhood education, and offering inclusive health & fitness opportunities in the urban core. Today, we continue our 120 year tradition of social justice through work on wellness, youth and child development, and racial justice.
